Itching caused by scabies can be extremely painful during the night while you are trying to get some rest. This is especially bad because you have the rash to deal with and along with that you cannot sleep. Scabies treatment is urgent in these cases to give you back your rest and sanity. Treatment must be undertaken immediately after the doctor diagnoses the scabies.

The appearance of scabies in your home does not come from bad hygiene or anything like that. They are transmitted by physical contact only. You might get it in a waiting room while attending a meeting. Your child might pick it up in school; your neighbor may have it. Infection is similar to lice infection; someone passes them on to you.

Even though they are a nuisance they cannot survive more than twenty four hours away from their host. After twenty four hours on the bed sheets or clothes without the host in them they will die. Heat or cold will also kill them fast away from a warm body and food. The fact that they are relatively weak does not stop them from multiplying at amazing speeds though.

Treatment is simple but must be done at very specific times to eliminate the plague. All the family and any person who has constant close contact with the family should be treated or at least be watched closely for infestation for at least twenty one days. That is how long the eggs that were deposited under your skin take to hatch.

Creams and lotions are applied to the whole body; different age groups require different creams and lotions. There is scabies treatment that can be applied to a two month baby. These creams and or lotions must be left on the body for at least eight hours after which they can be washed off. Treatment must be repeated on the same day for the following four or five weeks to make sure they are exterminated.

To keep the itch down as much as possible after treatment it is a good idea to shower and scrub a couple of times per day. After the scabies are dead the itch will remain for some time due to the waste they deposited on and under your skin. Drinking a lot of water will help to wash some of the poison and toxins out.

If you are single and live alone, it is possible that you are infected by someone you have slept with. Be sure to let them know what has happened so they will take their own measures and treatments. Scabies can spread fairly fast if left unattended and can grow to epidemic proportions. This applies especially to schools and places where people share a lot and have physical contact.
